1. My Parents never meant to be “mean” to me. Being the middle child by a perfectly matched class -interval with the other two siblings, I got consigned and then felt poised in the segment of ‘mediocrity’, accentuated by outstanding academic scores of the other two. As destined, I married a girl, of my choice, who has been outstanding in her academic scorings. For the sake of comparisons, I remained the “mean”.

2. No, I am not apportioning my averageness to anyone. Although, mediocrity appears to be a negatively loaded word, it is better than being termed abysmal or a below- par performer. It saddled me to a comfort zone, where I could handle things, with a scope to compare myself with the outstanding performers.

3. Looking back, mediocrity can be a choice of many, who may not be willing to run the race in a rush for display of their potential; they need not necessarily be construed as run-of-the-mill humans, sans talent.

4. Empirical analysis suggests that majority of the people display average intelligence, memory and creativity, but when it comes to self-assessment, even the most modest people rate themselves as “better than average” with an innate desire to shy away from being bracketed on the “Mean”, despite being aware that our functional lifestyle is rather optimised by the law of average.

5. I would be delighted to get your comments on this topic of being branded as an average or an outstanding person!
